The triumphant return of one of the late, great 'stately homos of England'

Until his death in 1999 at the age of 90, Quentin Crisp was a living piece of gay history. An out homosexual in England in the '30s, he survived where many others like him perished by sheer dint of his indefatigable wit. In 1975, he was catapulted to fame by a British TV movie of his deliciously funny memoir, 'The Naked Civil Servant', starring legendary actor John Hurt. Now, in a glorious twist of fate, Hurt reprises his role as Crisp and brings us the last chapter of Crisp's life -- his nearly 25 years as a 'Resident Alien' of New York. It is an at times hilarious and bittersweet tale of latter-life success, as Crisp first triumphs and then makes a serious misstep in the political charged, AIDS-ravaged gay scene of the 1980s. But his most moving accomplishment comes almost at the end of his life, as he champions a young artist who will die of HIV before he achieves the kind of fame Crisp had so long craved, and finally discovered in that great city of dreams.
