■Program
●Were the World Mine
Dir.: Tom Gustafson / 2008 / USA / 96min / Language: English (with Japanese subtitles)
Love, real or magical, has never travelled a smooth road
Timothy’s lush musical daydreams are an escape from his miserable high school life. But his fantasies leap to new heights when he’s cast as Puck in the school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and discovers the famous purple pansy love potion. Timothy sees his chance to reshape the world, and make the school rugby jock fall in love with him. Shakespeare becomes a little Shakesqueer when Timothy ensnares everyone around him in musical comedy and errors. With a pop-rock and Broadway soundtrack, and a first-rate cast, Were the World Mine is based on the award-winning short film Faeries by SPEAKproductions.
●Wish Me Away
Dir.: Bobbie Birleffi, Beverly Kopf / 2011 / USA / 93min / Language: English (with Japanese subtitles)
All her life, Chely Wright hid and suffered. Then she bravely shared her story with us.
Feature-length documentary Wish Me Away is a personal and intimate look at Chely Wright, the first country music star to come out as gay. After a lifetime of hiding, she shatters cultural and religious stereotypes within Nashville, her conservative heartland family, and most importantly, herself. Over a three-year period, award-winning filmmakers Bobbie Birleffi and Beverly Kopf followed Chely’s struggle? some of which was recorded on private video diaries? and her unfolding plan to come out publicly. Finally, the film chronicles the aftermath of that decision in Nashville, her hometown and within the LGBT community.

]]>We’ve been receiving many messages of excitement and anticipation about this year’s festival, and the organizers of the TILGFF would like to thank you for all your letters of encouragement.
TILGFF would like to ask all the fans and supporters to consider making a donation to help realize this film festival.
The festival has been held 21 times, and is aimed at raising the visibility of LGBT people and spreading the joy of LGBT culture.
The financial struggle to continue holding the TILGFF has always existed. Though dedicated volunteers have been a great help with running the festival and reducing the costs, a certain amount of cost is inevitable. In fact, the TILGFF has been struggling to break even each year.
In order to build up a stable foundation, the organizers are reviewing how to raise funds. One of the challenges this year has been opening a web page to accept donations from fans and supporters. Your contribution will be strictly used to hold the TILGFF, which we hope will be more fun and encourage more participation than ever.
The target goal for this year is 500,000 yen.
Please help spread the word to your friends and the world! Your contribution is needed for the film festival to continue to be able to bring films to make us laugh, make us cry, and finally make us think. Progress toward the fundraising target will be announced on Twitter.
Let’s come together to create a wonderful TILGFF 2012!!
Please see the details below.
How to make a donation … Become a supporter of the TILGFF!!!
We really appreciate your generous contribution and support.
Sincerely,
TILGFF Committee
