ABOUT

Greeting

The time for celebrating the 22nd Tokyo International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival has arrived. This year, for the first time since the aftermath of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the festival has returned to being held in summer, in July. We hope to keep providing you with this great chance to enjoy more and more wonderful films.

In the past few years, the circumstances of sexual minorities around the world have dramatically changed, and Japan is no exception. And while sexual minorities have been shown by various Japanese media outlets, I feel that there are still many people who are unaware of their existence.

We have great films from all over the world for the festival this year. For people who wonder, “What is a sexual minority?”, for people who doubt the existence of them, for people who may be questioning their own sexuality, and for sexual minorities themselves who have worries about their way of life… these films can make audiences in different situations feel and think many different things. I hope that by watching and enjoying the various films, as well as feeling the atmosphere of the festival, it will encourage you.
