I was afraid of things you can’t see. Before coming out, I didn’t know what would happen and thought about staying in the closet for the rest of my life. But watching LGBT films and meeting LGBT people and allies gradually gave me the courage to voice it. I hope we all have that kind of courage and understanding for one another.

Although I think that the word LGBT has become quite common, there are still many people who are unaware. This tendency seems particularly strong in the rural areas. Many LGBT people themselves don’t know what to do about it. I think films can be good textbooks for them. There are as many different circumstances as there are LGBT people. Films are one of the things that can give them ideas on finding a solution. I hope that even if someone is LGBT, they can live for themselves in their own way.

When expressing the allure of something, the power of art is immeasurable. This is because people value things they feel in their hearts more than things they remember in their minds. The things you feel in your heart are passed on from you to others, eventually reaching the hearts of many. I hope much inspiration, courage and dreams will be born from this place.

Congratulations on the 27th Rainbow Reel Tokyo. I hope that RRT provides people an opportunity to feel close to LGBTQ. I believe that RRT can be courage and hope for LGBTQ including myself. I am looking forward to watching great movies!

I would like to sincerely congratulate you on the opening of Rainbow Reel Tokyo and express my deepest respect for all the staff’s efforts. I myself have been to this festival many times and been inspired by the films from all over the world. While there were few films with LGBT as the main character, I was captivated by the stories that I could relate to, and it was also an opportunity to learn about their realities from documentaries. I hope to find new, wonderful works again at the festival this year.
