Notice: Postponement of the 29th Rainbow Reel Tokyo
“Tokyo International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival”
We hereby inform all parties concerned that in order to stop the COVID-19 pandemic, the 29th Rainbow Reel Tokyo “Tokyo International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival” planned for Summer 2020 has been postponed. We are now in plans to hold our festival in 2021.
Preparations were underway to hold this annual event, however it is yet unknown when this curve can be flattened and the world still remains threatened by this disease. The health and safety of our audience is our primary concern, and as such we deemed it impossible to hold the film festival in August 2020, so in these circumstances we have made the decision to postpone. We kindly ask for your understanding and support on our decision.
Furthermore, the deadline for submission of Japanese films will be April 24th and unchanged. Unless an applicant opts to withdraw their submission, all submissions will be included into the selection for the festival in 2021 (and our staff will contact those applicants separately).
We are preserving our strength so we may hold this film festival once the pandemic ends everywhere, and when the day comes when we can enjoy movies together again. We hope that day comes quickly and look forward to seeing you all again.
April 23, 2020
